Chapter 1 — Him and His Rudeness
Thea’s POV: “Hurry up, Thea! Mrs. Smith told us that the boss arrives today.” My friend Kendra shouted at me when she noticed that I was just sitting in my chair doing nothing. I barely looked at her and nodded lazily. I couldn’t blame anyone for being so sleepy at work. It was already five in the morning when I fell asleep because of a stupid dream. I dreamt about a man who looked exactly like a protagonist in a fantasy story. Though I couldn’t clearly define his features, I knew that he was hot, and any woman would be interested in him. He had dark eyes. It seemed that there were nameless emotions in them. That dream! I had that dream three times this week. What did it mean? And who the hell was that man? “Are you done daydreaming? Do you want to get fired?” Kendra asked me sarcastically. I looked at her. Kendra had always been a hot-tempered woman. Maybe that was the reason she was still single. We’re actually the same, so, I guess that might be why I was single. “I’ll be right behind you,” I answered. She turned her back to me and walked slowly while stamping her feet. This woman was really aggressive. But she cared for me, and I appreciated that. Ten years ago, my parents died in an accident, and she became my family in an instant. I was twelve years old, and I was alone. No relatives, no friends. I was so hopeless and thought that I would die just like my parents, but unexpectedly, a fifteen-year-old girl named Kendra showed up and saved my life. But everyone else was gone, including my older brother, who had always been by my side whenever I needed comfort. Kendra took me to an orphanage, and we grew up together. My parents were known for being great in business, but there was no news about their death or me, their missing daughter. So, I stayed quiet and learned to take care of myself. But that was all in the past, and I doubt anyone could recognize me now. After all, I grew up as a fine, independent lady. “Crap!” I cursed and ran as fast as I could when I noticed that I was the only person left on the floor. They were probably all at the entrance to welcome our new boss. I quickly stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the first floor. I was on the forty-fifth floor. Holy moly! I hadn’t been in my right for the past few weeks, and I had neglected my work in the finance department. I was wearing a black skirt that fell two inches above the knee with a fitted white shirt and a black coat. This wasn’t the proper uniform, but mine was soaking wet from last night’s rain. I’m twenty-two years old and would soon be graduating from Stallion University, a school that had a good reputation and reviews. It was an expensive school, but I was able to study there because of a scholarship. Maybe that was also the reason I was hired, even though I wasn’t yet a college graduate. When the elevator stopped on the twenty-fourth floor, I lifted my head to see who was getting on. It seemed that I was not the only one who was late and might be fired. Thank God I had a companion if Mrs. Smith decided to fire me. “Hello,” I greeted them, but it came out more like a question. I meant to just glance but ended up fixing my gaze on the man. I was so shocked when I realized how good looking this person was. Could it be fate that we both ended up in this elevator alone? “Ahem…Don’t you know how to talk?” I said sarcastically, then stared at him. He seemed domineering, but full of charism. I looked at his face and saw how his eyebrows arched nicely. His dark eyes symbolized danger, yet they were so gorgeous that I could stare into them forever. I moved my gaze to his well-shaped nose and down to his sexy lips. God! How could this man be so perfect? His skin looked so soft, and his jaw looked like it had been carved by an artist. He even had a luscious Adam’s apple. Whoa! Was he a celebrity? But why was he here? “Tsk! Your eyes are annoying,” the man said. I suddenly snapped out of my fantasy. Really, Thea? I looked at him from head to toe as if I was disgusted, but I knew how perfect he was in a formal suit that fit his body perfectly. I could definitely guess that he had some hidden abs under his black coat, which looked really expensive. “Dream on! I was just looking around,” I stated and looked away. Why did it feel like this elevator was so damn slow? Why weren’t we there yet? I played with my fingers, trying to stay calm when I sensed that he was now looking at me. The heck? Why was my heart beating rapidly like I was in a race or something? “Hmm…you’re pretty brave for an employee.” I lifted my head when he spoke. Was he talking down to me? I couldn’t let this dumb guy win. I crossed my arms and fixed a deadly gaze on him. “Don’t you know that being an employee here has a greater salary than some celebrities?” I raised my eyebrow. Yes, he was indeed handsome, but that didn’t mean that I’d let him get away with being rude. My body froze when I found out that he was actually trying to embarrass me with his sharp eyes. His features were truly irresistible while his figure was the definition of the word perfect. He may be from a well-known and wealthy family. “I didn’t ask,” he said seriously. He frowned but looked away immediately after taking a final glimpse at me. Well, I’m cute, so maybe he couldn’t resist me. “Now you’re acting weird. It’s okay. I know you already regret what you said,” I said and sighed deeply. Now we were almost to the first floor. Kendra and our coworkers might kill me if I stain our department’s reputation. I knew that many employees didn’t like me at all. Maybe because they thought that a student wasn’t qualified to work for this company. I hurriedly stepped out when the elevator arrived. I was about to run to welcome our new boss at the entrance when the man grabbed my wrist tightly. Well, I loved his physical appearance but not his cold and rude personality. “What is your problem?” I asked him, trying to break away from his grip. I was stunned when I saw danger in his dark eyes as if there was something he doesn’t like. I followed his finger as he pointed at me. I exclaimed when I realized what he wanted to say. “You want your black bra to show? Fix that damn button before someone sees it…” After that, he left and didn’t bother to look back. His broad shoulders were drawing other people’s attention. I hurriedly buttoned my shirt and fixed my messy hair. While walking, I couldn’t stop thinking about that mysterious hot man. Maybe that was why he felt shy earlier. Well, some wealthy people didn’t know how to respect others. They just bragged about their money and pride. “You silly girl! Where have you been? The boss already arrived a while ago,” Mrs. Smith said with a low but deadly voice. All my colleagues were staring at me with pure amusement. That’s not new to me at all since almost all of them hated me. “I have a stomachache, which is why I was late, Mrs. Smith,” I responded but didn’t dare look at her. We stood near each other. This company had many employees, and there was no doubt that this was the most well-known company in this country. There was no grand entrance or party. We were only informed that the new boss would be here and would handle business from now on. It felt weird. I saw women squeak as if they were truly excited. Some were whispering about something, and others were looking in mirrors, fixing their makeup. Never mind! They just wanted to show off so they would be favored by the new owner. Kendra was nowhere to be found. With so many employees, I didn’t recognize most of the people around me. I just started working here last year, so I didn’t know everyone. “Everybody, go back to work now!” I stiffened when I heard that deep manly voice. I was scared to look up, but I needed to confirm my suspicions. Could it be him, that elevator guy? “Oh God! Please spare me,” I whispered when I confirmed that it was actually him. The women began to murmur. He was near me, probably just ten steps away. I wandered around, hoping he wouldn’t see me, but I was totally wrong. “You…” All eyes turned to me when he pointed his finger at me. I felt my heart skip a beat. Would he fire me? If I had known that he was my boss, I would not have talked to him like that. I might have even just taken the stairs to avoid him and his rudeness. I almost stopped breathing when he slowly walked towards me. All I could hear was the beat of my pitiful heart and the sound of his shoes on the floor. I wanted to move away but I couldn’t, and I mustn’t. I composed myself and stood my ground. I smiled at him, but I didn’t dare look at his dangerous eyes. “Follow me to my office,” he whispered and continued to walk. I felt a sudden heat rise to my cheeks when his breath touched my ears. A huge jolt of electricity ran through my system. Now what? Should I call myself lucky now?
